Heather Morton
Heather was introduced to Yoga in 2000 at Jivamukti Yoga School in New York City where she practiced with many world renowned teachers such as David Life, Sharon Gannon, Ruth Lauer Manenti and Kelly Morris. She also practiced with Ashtanga Yoga founder Sri K. Pattabhi Jois during his New York workshop in 2003.
After moving to Seattle in 2006, Heather earned her teacher certification from Samadhi Yoga director Kathleen Hunt. Traveling across India in 2009 to study yoga made Heather realize her true path is to spread the teachings of Yoga to aid others physically and mentally. In India, Heather spent time in Mysore practicing Ashtanga Yoga and all over the south and north practicing Hatha, Universal, Ashtanga and Sivananda styles. A blend of these styles embody her classes, using flowing sequences to warm the body, held exercises for strengthening and long, deep stretches to lengthen the muscles. She sends pranams to all her teachers; especially her teacher training mentor, Jenny Ingwersen, of Samadhi, and Master Sajee of Fort Cochin, India, a true "remover of darkness".
Favorite pose? "I don't really have a favorite pose, but I love Vinyasa for it's ability to be a metaphor for the ever-changing lives we live."
Kryptonite pose? "My most challenging pose today is Compass, the standing version."
Kath Mitchell
Kathleen Sheets
After discovering yoga through PBS in high school Kathleen moved in and out of yoga for years. A college yoga class inspired her to lead her friends in savasana. In 2000, after many years of experimenting with yoga, Kathleen dedicated herself to a regular practice, moving deeper into the many branches of the tree of yoga and into teaching.
Strongly influenced by the Iyengar tradition, Kathleen draws from many teachings of the Krishnamacharya lineage. Her focus is on alignment and technique in asana, with attention to energy in the body through the breath. Her aim is to make yoga accessible to all, so that students will find sthira (stability) and sukham (ease) in the postures and in the breath.
Kathleen holds a BFA in visual art and enjoys the intuitive and creative side of the art and science of yoga. She completed her 200 level training at Universalmovement Yoga Studio, in Virginia Beach, VA, is a Certified Yoga Instructor and is registered nationally with Yoga Alliance at the 200 level. She has had an opportunity to attend workshops with nationally recognized teachers including Donald Moyer, Donna Farhi, Tias Little and Rod Stryker. An ever curious student of yoga, Kathleen is currently enrolled in an advanced 500 level yoga teacher training with teachers Theresa Elliott and Kathryn Payne of Pacific Yoga Teacher Training in Seattle, to be completed in May.
Favorite poses: "It’s like choosing a favorite child! Almost everything we need to know we learn in tadasana & downward dog. I love the freedom in ardha chandrasana, the clarity in sirasana and the restorative quality of supta baddhakonasana."
Kryptonite pose: "Parsva bakasana, I’m hoping with wisdom comes ease in arm balances."
Desert island books: "Light on Yoga, Light on Pranayama, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra."
Lynn Heimsoth
Lynn was first drawn to a yoga class in 1999 by an invitation from a friend. At the time a triathelete with 13 years experience teaching all types of aerobics, Lynn was amazed with all yoga had to offer. Within the next year unexpected and difficult life changes brought Lynn to the mat more and more frequently. This inspired her to deepen her study of various styles of yoga including Vinyasa Flow, Ashtanga, Anusara, and Restorative. Lynn brings her knowledge of the body as a former massage therapist, her knowledge of the mind as a mental health professional, and her love of teaching (24 years as a public educator) to each class. She feels privileged to be able to teach at Samudra Yoga.
Books for a desert island? "Light on Yoga" by BKS Iyengar and "Yoga and the Quest for the True Self" by Stephen Cope.
